Gate Repair Services in Los Angeles, CA
If your automated gate in Los Angeles has stopped opening, started grinding, or sags far enough to scrape the driveway, we can usually have someone there the same day. Gatewood Fence & Gate is owner-operated out of Los Angeles, and the person who answers when you call (323) 677-4063 is the same person who will show up with the welder and the parts. We’ve been fixing gates since 2001, and in this city that means we’ve seen just about every failure a heavy iron gate, a steep driveway, and a coastal salt breeze can produce.
Los Angeles is a city of gated driveways. From the 1920s Spanish bungalows in Hancock Park to the Mid-Century hillside homes in Silver Lake and the Tuscan-style estates in Bel Air, the gate is often the first thing a homeowner touches every day. When it fails, you notice fast. We carry the parts that fit Mighty Mule, LiftMaster, FAAC, and BFT operators, and we keep enough steel stock in the truck to repair a broken weld on site rather than hauling your gate across town. Most repair calls in Los Angeles are handled the same day I answer the phone.

Why Los Angeles Homeowners Choose Gatewood Fence & Gate
The short version: Hal Gatewood puts his name on the shop, publishes his address, and backs every job with a written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, one call brings him back. No runaround, no “that’s a different department.” The longer version is that Los Angeles homeowners have been burned by gate companies that quote one price on the phone and show up with another number on the invoice. That doesn’t happen here. The price is quoted and agreed before any work starts, and it doesn’t change at the door.
We work a lot in the hills: Laurel Canyon, Benedict Canyon, Beachwood Canyon, and up along Mulholland Drive. Those neighborhoods have steep driveways, heavy custom gates, and soil that moves every winter. We also work the flatlands: West Adams, Mid-City, Miracle Mile, Los Feliz. Different problems in each place, which is why a one-size-fits-all gate company struggles here. We also answer the phone at midnight. Not a voicemail tree, not a call center. Hal or one of the crew picks up, every time, 24 hours a day.
Gate Repair Services We Offer in Los Angeles
Gate Repair
The core of what we do. Sagging gates, broken hinges, bent posts, cracked welds, latch failures, rollers jumped off track. We fix the gate in your driveway, not in some warehouse across the county. Learn more about our Gate Repair in Los Angeles.
Gate Installation
New gate, new steel, new posts set in concrete. We measure, we build or source the gate, and we install it level and square. This is scheduled work, not emergency work, so we come out free to measure and give you a written price. Learn more about our Gate Installation in Los Angeles.
Gate Motor & Opener Service
Operators die in Los Angeles faster than almost anywhere because of the hills and the heavy gates. We diagnose, repair, and replace motors on LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Mighty Mule, and a handful of other major brands. Repairs are often same-day; full operator replacements are quoted on site before we order anything. Learn more about our gate motor and opener service from the home page.
Gate Access Control
Keypads, intercoms, telephone entry, vehicle detectors, safety edges, phone apps. Access control is the difference between a gate that opens and a gate you trust. This category includes the emergency-responder override we’ll talk about below, which matters more in Los Angeles than most people realize. Learn more about our Gate Access Control in Los Angeles.
Gate Parts & Welding
On-site welding is the heart of our repair-first philosophy. If a hinge post bracket cracked, we weld it back strong. If a picket snapped loose, we weld it before it takes out the whole frame. We don’t swap a gate because a weld broke. We carry steel stock, hinge pins, brackets, chain, and rollers in the truck. Learn more about our gate parts and welding from the home page.
Neighborhoods We Serve in Los Angeles
We cover the whole county, but these are the pockets where we spend most of our weeks. Typical response time for repairs anywhere in Los Angeles is the same day you call, often within a few hours depending on how many stops landed that morning.

- Bel Air and Brentwood

Why Los Angeles’s Climate and Housing Affect Gate Repair
This city has probably the highest concentration of automated driveway gates in the country. Hollywood Hills, Bel Air, Benedict Canyon, Silver Lake, Hancock Park, Los Feliz: the gate is part of the streetscape. But much of that gated housing sits inside Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, which means LA County Fire Code requires automated gates to include approved emergency-responder override access, usually a Knox Box or equivalent. A gate company that ignores this isn’t doing sloppy work; it’s quietly creating a life-safety problem. We check for it on every single service call, every single time.
The other piece of it is the housing stock. Los Angeles residential gates lean heavy: ornamental steel, custom wrought iron, sometimes 400 to 600 pounds per leaf on a hillside estate. That’s far outside what standard residential operators are spec’d for. We often find the gate was hung by a contractor or landscaper, and the motor has been fighting double its rated weight for years. It fails every two or three seasons, and the owner keeps getting told they need a whole new gate. Most of the time they don’t. They need the right operator and a properly rebuilt post. Show me the gate closing on its own and I’ll show you where it’s failing.
West of the 405, the story changes. Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and Pacific Palisades get marine layer salt in the air, and that salt eats hinge pins, motor housings, and bolt threads at twice the inland rate. A hinge that would last fifteen years in Silver Lake rusts out in eight in Venice. When we see coastal rust, we sometimes recommend sealing or a different pin material. Inland, the winter atmospheric-river storms are the bigger threat. Hillside soil shifts, and a gate that closed perfectly in October starts binding in February because the post moved half an inch overnight. That is a gate sagging in the hinge post, not in the middle, and that’s where we start.

FAQs About Gate Repair in Los Angeles
How much does gate repair cost in Los Angeles?
Most Los Angeles gate repairs land between $160 and $700, depending on whether you need a sensor swapped, a weld fixed, or a whole heavy gate re-hung. We quote the price before any work begins and that quote does not change. If you have a written estimate from another company, bring it with you and we’ll give you a free second opinion. Call (323) 677-4063 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
Can you fix my gate today in Los Angeles?
Yes, most repair calls in Los Angeles are handled the same day you call. We keep gate motors, sensors, steel stock, welding gear, and hardware in the trucks, so we arrive ready to fix rather than to look and reschedule. A live person answers the phone around the clock. Call (323) 677-4063 and tell Hal what your gate is doing. He’ll tell you if he can get there today.
What does a full gate installation include in Los Angeles?
A full installation includes measuring the opening, checking the driveway grade, setting new posts in concrete, hanging the gate, and wiring the operator and safety edges. In Los Angeles hillside neighborhoods we also check grade and soil, and in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones we verify the emergency-responder override so the gate meets LA County Fire Code. Installation is scheduled work. We come out free to measure and give you a written price. Learn more on our Gate Installation in Los Angeles page.
Do you handle the power run and the safety edges?
Yes. We run the power, mount the control board, install and align the safety edges and photo eyes, and make sure the gate reverses the way it’s supposed to. That last part matters: a gate closing on a car or a person is not something you guess at. We set it, test it, and show you how to test it yourself. We service LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Mighty Mule, and other major operator brands.
Does my Los Angeles gate need a Knox Box for the fire department?
If your gate is in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, which includes big stretches of the Hollywood Hills, Bel Air, Benedict Canyon, and parts of the Valley, LA County Fire Code requires an approved emergency-responder override. That usually means a Knox Box or an equivalent. We check this on every call, because a gate that won’t open for a fire engine is a problem that matters more than a sagging hinge. Call (323) 677-4063 and we’ll tell you what your specific gate needs.

What Los Angeles Customers Say
"Driveway gate had been dragging for two years and two other companies told me the whole thing needed replacing. Hal reset the posts, rehung it and it swings like it did when it went in. A fraction of the price of a new one."
- Hollis Amberly"Operator had died and the manufacturer no longer makes the board. Rather than sell me a whole new system he found a compatible unit and adapted the mount. Saved me a great deal of money."
- Salvador Arredondo"Hundred and forty feet of cedar privacy fence, all posts set in concrete, all of it dead level on ground that is anything but. He walked the line with me twice before a single hole was dug."
