Elite Gate Repair in West Hollywood: What to Know First
We repair Elite gate operators and openers throughout West Hollywood, usually same week and often same day when the parts are on our truck. Most Elite gate repairs here run between $275 and $600, and you will know the price before we touch a bolt. This page is for West Hollywood homeowners with an Elite gate that quit, growls, or won’t stay closed. Call (323) 677-4063 and a live person picks up.
How Elite Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
Elite builds a solid operator, but every brand has its habits. Here is what we actually see on Elite gates in West Hollywood, and what we do about it.
- SL3000 and SL1000 limit switch drift. The SL3000 swings heavy driveway gates, and after a few thousand cycles the limit cams wear just enough that the gate overshoots the open stop and torques the arm. You hear a hard clunk at the end of travel, and eventually the arm bracket cracks. We reset the limits, shim the cam, and weld the bracket if it’s started to tear. Most companies replace the whole arm. We don’t.
- CSW200 capacitor failure in West Hollywood heat. The CSW200 is an AC workhorse, but the start capacitor sits inside the control box and bakes on hillside driveways that catch afternoon sun. The symptom is a hum with no movement, or the gate starts only when you push it. We test the capacitor under load, replace it with a same-spec part, and check the run capacitor while we’re in there. It’s a $40 part and a half hour of labor. Some outfits will sell you a new board instead.
- Gearbox oil leaks on the older SL series. Elite’s worm gearboxes weep from the input shaft seal once the unit hits five or six years. You’ll see a dark line down the side of the operator housing. Left alone, the gearbox runs dry and chews the bronze gear. We pull the unit, reseal it, and refill with the correct weight oil, not whatever synthetic grease is closest to the truck.
- Phantom obstruction faults on the Miracle One and Pro series. The in-board obstruction sensor on some Elite Miracle One models gets overly sensitive as the board ages, so the gate reverses for no reason halfway open. Before condemning the board, we check the clutch torque, clean the gear teeth, and test the current draw. About half the time it’s a mechanical bind, not a failing circuit.
- Hinge post movement on heavy Elite cantilever setups. In the hills above Sunset and up toward Laurel Canyon, we see gate posts lean because the original footings went into slope fill. The operator keeps working fine, but the gate drags and the edges bind. We pull the post, pour a deeper footing, and rehang the gate true. The SL3000 gets a fighting chance after that.
Our Elite Gate Repair Process
Here is how a typical Elite repair goes when you call us in West Hollywood.
- 1
You call, a person answers. Not a menu tree. You tell us what the gate is doing, and we tell you whether it sounds like a quick fix or a diagnostic call.
- 2
We show up and look. Hal or one of his crew checks the operator, the arm, the hinges, the power feed, and the safety edges. We find the first thing that failed, then look for what it damaged downstream.
- 3
We quote before we wrench. You get a number for parts and labor, agreed before any work starts. No surprise add-ons at the end.
- 4
We decide: OEM or quality aftermarket. For Elite motors, boards, and gearboxes, we use Elite OEM parts when they matter and quality aftermarket when they don’t. We’ll tell you the trade-off in plain English and let you decide.
- 5
We fix it on site. We weld in your driveway when a bracket or hinge needs it. The gate stays where it belongs, not loaded on a trailer headed to some shop.
- 6
We test until it’s annoying. The gate cycles a half-dozen times clean before we roll out. Every job carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, one call brings us back.
What Elite Gate Repair Costs in West Hollywood
Here are the numbers we quote most often for Elite gate work in West Hollywood. These are real ranges, not phone estimates that change when we pull into your driveway.
- Capacitor replacement (CSW200, SL series): $90-$160
- Limit switch adjustment or replacement (SL1000/SL3000): $120-$220
- Control board diagnostic and repair: $180-$350
- Gearbox reseal and oil change: $250-$400
- Full operator replacement (Elite SL3000 or equivalent): $1,400-$2,600 installed
What moves the price: access to the operator, how much welding is involved, and whether you need an OEM board. What doesn’t move it: how nice your house is. We quote the same job the same way. Seniors and veterans always get 10% off, repairs over $200 get $40 off, and there’s no trip charge anywhere in the county. Estimates are free. Call (323) 677-4063 and we’ll tell you what we think it is before we even come out.
Why West Hollywood Homeowners Call Gatewood Fence & Gate for Elite Work
We’ve been fixing gates in West Hollywood since 2001. Hal Gatewood learned the mechanical side at LATTC down on Washington Boulevard, and his name is on the shop, the invoices, and every job we leave behind. When your Elite operator dies on a hillside driveway at 7 a.m., you want the person who answers the phone to be the person who actually knows what an SL3000 is. That’s us. We service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing too, so if you’ve got a second gate or a different opener on the property, we handle it the same visit. As an independent Elite service provider, we’re not tied to a manufacturer’s script. We fix what’s broken, not what’s easiest to bill.
FAQs
Often yes, especially for common failures like capacitors, limit switches, and loose arms that we carry parts for on the truck. If your gate needs a board or a gearbox we don’t stock, we’ll get it ordered and back out within a few days. Call (323) 677-4063 with the model number and we’ll tell you exactly what to expect.
Elite warranties cover the part, not the labor, and they only apply when the part itself fails from a manufacturing defect, not from normal wear, moisture, or power surges. The wear items we replace most often (limit cams, capacitors, seals) are not warranty pieces anyway. If your unit is still under warranty, we’ll help you file the claim and use genuine Elite parts so nothing gets jeopardized.
If the operator housing is cracked, the gearbox has run dry and scored the gears, or the board has failed twice in three years, replacement usually makes more sense. If the arm, limits, capacitor, or wiring is the problem, repair is cheaper and gives you years more life. We will tell you honestly which side you’re on before we do any work.
Both, depending on what failed. Motors, boards, and complete operators are worth buying genuine Elite. Capacitors, limit switches, and most bracketry come from quality aftermarket suppliers that match or exceed the OEM spec. We show you the part and the price before we install it.
On the Miracle One and Pro lines, it’s usually either a binding hinge making the motor pull extra amps, or an obstruction sensor that’s drifted too sensitive as the board aged. We test both. Charging you for a new board before checking the mechanicals is how sloppy diagnostics happen, and we don’t do that.
If your Elite gate is acting up in West Hollywood, call (323) 677-4063 or stop by the shop. Tell us what it’s doing wrong and we’ll tell you what it actually needs. Give us your number and Hal will call you back himself.
